Row80 Round 1 Goals

My last post on New Year’s resolutions was a bit flippant. That’s my overall view of resolutions, I don’t like them and they usually end badly. The best luck I’ve had is with the last round of Row80, and that ended off kilter. This year will bring lots of changes, for me and my family, and I have many things I need to accomplish. So maybe this round of Row80 will help me achieve those goals. Not calling them resolutions! Unlike my two previous rounds, these goals are all over the place and not just writing related. I also will not be giving two updates a week, at least not at first. That just doesn’t work for me. So here we go:
Writing: I have a novella in mind and need to finish plotting it. By the end of this round, I want it plotted and finished writing. I’m thinking 25,000 words is my goal.
Editing: I have my NaNoWriMo project that needs work. I need to read the whole thing and begin edits. I’ll say the first 50 pages. If I make it, I’ll push toward 100 pages.
Submissions: Submit to one editor/agent a week.
Health: Age has decided I am not as young as I feel. I’ll spare you the gory details. Let’s just say I need to exercise more. I don’t exercise at all now, work notwithstanding. I hate exercise. I hate to be hot, especially now. But changes must be made. Sadly, I don’t even know where to begin. Start small. One exercise session a week.
The Great Purge: Since I will be jobless soon, I decided to clean my house from end to end. Taking one room at a time. In true nerd fashion, I typed up a three page list of what needs to be done. (Writer sighs deeply.) I’m starting with my closet. One area a week would be great, two will be a miracle. This leads me to my next problem. On the top shelf of my closet is a giant white box that holds my wedding dress. Yes, I kept my dress. It is gorgeous, but I doubt either of my girls will want to wear it. I don’t know anyone that actually wears their mother’s dress. (Writer gazes softly into the distance remembering fondly a warm day in August, 14+ years ago…) Wouldn’t it be awesome if I could wear that dress one more time and have photos taken at the beach…..We won’t discuss the number of dress sizes needed to drop for that to happen.
W&*(^t : That’s a four letter word I refuse to use, but you get the idea. Since this monster sale started at work, I have indulged my sweet tooth to the extreme. Now, it’s time to beat it into submission. Each week I will replace one naughty snack with a healthy one and increase my fruit/veggie intake. I will not give up chocolate, I will switch to 70% dark chocolate. Goal 3 healthy snacks a week.

My brain hurts just thinking about all of this.  Is there even enough time in the day to get all of this squeezed in?  I shall try.

What are your goals?

  1. Resolutions are easy to break. That’s why I love Row80 – we can set achievable, concrete goals. Love the varied nature of yours. I know what you mean about exercise. I hate it as well. But I need to begin. Walking is said to be the best. Maybe I need to get a dog! lol All the best as we move through round 1.

  2. Good luck! I’m attempting 500 words per day, with hopes of completing my WIP by June 30, 2015. I need to work in some exercise, too, but I’ll concentrate more on that next round. Good on you for switching to dark chocolate. I think that’s the wise way to go. Also, WRT twice-weekly updates, I used to do mine every Wednesday & skipped Sunday. No one ever sent any check-in police after me, so I think you’ll be safe. We can do this!

PS — I’d have to drop more than 4 sizes to fit into my wedding dress, if it makes you feel better. And we’ve only been married 7 yrs compared to your 14, so YOU ARE WINNING. Go, gurl! 🙂
