That was a Fast Week

That was a fast week. Our first week of Summer vacation at home flew by. Last week doesn’t count. I’ve been busy busy busy. I spent this morning tracking down school books for fall. Thankfully I only have to buy six. The others I have found from an older student. Hopefully I’ll have them ordered by the end of June and I can scratch that off my mental list.

As you may know, I had a deal with Eden to  watch a two part episode of Dr. Who and in return she would watch another James Bond movie, Dr. No. I watched them Eden. My kids loved them and keep walking around the house saying, “Are you my Mummy?” I’ve never been a fan of gas masks and now I downright hate them. That episode was so creepy.  Sorry Eden, I still don’t like Dr. Who. I gave it a shot.

Round 2 Goals:

Red highlights were a total failure.

Blue highlights were either constant progress, which I count as a success or completed.

Pink highlights are goals I’m dropping. Really, no surprise there. I hate them.

  • Promotion. I did a little. I had one response from the mountain of emails I sent out. I followed up on that.
  • Read 4 books a month. I started 179 Ways to Save a Novel by Peter Selgin. I finished Ruby Red  by Kerstin Gier. I really enjoyed it. 3/4 books read.
  • Write two posts a week, not related to Row80.  Just the one.
  • Stay on top of Critique group. I finished with a week to spare!
  • Edit/revise “Stella” for possible submission to a contest. It needs to be tightened. Done. It’s ready for critiques.
  • Edit/revise “Mermaid”– This has been through critique group and I need to address issues. Not yet.
  • Edit/revise “Monster” I finished writing it and want to have 1 critique before I sent it off.

I’m happy with how the week ended. Monster was harder to write than I anticipated. I’ve never written a story for a specific publication or contest. I’ve always looked through what I had to see what would fit. That’s much easier. This week I will concentrate on revising Mermaid. I have a stack of critiques that should help. And we have our first swim meet this week. I can’t wait.

How did your week go?

  1. This week was half and half. The first half, I didn’t get much writing done. The second half was a different story. I decided rather than tackling this story I’m writing full-on, I break it down into manageable scenes. So, this past weekend, I did little sections. Sometime later this week, I will start to bring it all together.

I will say this particular story is one of my more personal stories, and perhaps, the most difficult one. I’ve tried writing this story before, but suffered from a multitude of false starts. Maybe it was the universe telling me it wasn’t time to write it. And now, I feel like it’s time.

    • I loved Ruby Red. I picked it up on a whim, I liked the cover. I’m a sucker for time travel and London. Ruby has both 🙂 I almost took it back to the library without reading. I was afraid it would have too much romance. I’m not a fan of straight romance. I’m glad I kept it, and plan on reading book 2. I’m a little older than the target audience, but I appreciated it’s differences from most of the popular YA out at the moment. Very little language. No sex. No depressing future. The best part was it left unanswered questions and an unfinished plot arc. You have to read book 2 if you want true closure. Give it a go and let me know if you like it.

  2. Well, you tried! I guess this weekend will have to be Dr. No time for me. Sorry that your kids loved the episodes when they clearly creeped you out (they did us too, but in a fun way… because like Bond, we know the Doctor is going to ‘save the day’ somehow… or at least that’s the way it’s supposed to work). But… Capt. Jack is lots of fun. 😀

Hope the upcoming swimmeet goes well. Maybe it’ll also help with the critiques and Mermaid. Will cross fingers that you get a few more replied to your promo emails.
