Audio Books

I am a reader. Meaning, I like the feel of a book in my hands. A few years ago I started reading ebooks. I enjoy ebooks but I still prefer physical books.

Most of my book nerd friends also listen to audio books.

Sigh…I do not. BUT I’m trying. My library has electronic lending but my kindle will not work with the app. Of course. Using my Ipod I can access audio books. There are books I think I would do better with listening to rather than reading.

For instance, my first audio book is Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie. I’ve tried before to read it and never made it past the first chapter. I’m now almost 50% through with it in audio form.

But the question I have is this-

Does listening to an audio book count as reading it? Should they be scratched off my reading/challenge lists if I only listened to them?

At some point while I listen, my mind starts to wander. Or I multi-task and listen to it while cleaning house or something like that. But I also have a beautiful edition of Peter Pan that I can follow along with the audio version.  That should count for something.

I probably will count this on my challenge lists and reading log because in reality I’m not going to read it.

What’s your opinion? Does listening to an audio book count as reading?
